I Have Been Here

I HAVE BEEN HERE Xristozo I asked the questions through the night, Beneath the endless stars of blue; I searched the darkness for the light, And wondered if the heavens knew. Why does my heart refuse to rest? Why does my soul reach out for more? Why does the world leave me distressed, Still standing at eternity's door? I searched through words, I searched through men, I searched the places I had been. But every road I thought I'd found Just brought me back To hear the sound “I have been here, I have been here, Before you ever called My name. Before your heart Could seek My face, I knew you, And I came. You asked Me, ‘God, where are You?’ Through every doubt, Through every tear. My child, You never walked alone I have been here.” When emptiness filled my heart My questions had no start A longing filled my mind Life was like a waste of time I saw the broken and the lost, I saw the lonely bear their pain; I saw the innocent pay the cost, And asked if love could rise again. Then I saw Love upon a tree, The hands that formed the stars were scarred; The One who gave His life for me Was calling every wandering heart. And when they laid Him in the grave, The world believed That death had won. But morning broke, The stone was rolled, And death released The Living One. “I have been here, I have been here, Before you ever called My name. Before your heart Could seek My face, I knew you, And I came. You asked Me, ‘God, where are You?’ Through every doubt, Through every tear. My child, You never walked alone I have been here.” I was there When you were searching. I was there When you were lost. I was there Inside your questions. I was there Upon the cross. I was there When you were broken. I was there When hope was gone. I was there Before the morning. I was there When night was long. And if you ask me How I know I have heard Him. I have seen Him. I have found the answer I was searching for. So let the skeptic ask the question. Let the scholar search the truth. Let the wounded cry in darkness. Let the lonely look for You. For I know now what I would answer when they ask me, “Is He there?” I would tell them “He always was been here”  He has been here, He has been here, Before we ever called His name. Before our hearts Could seek His face, He knew us, And He came. We asked Him, “God, where are You?” Through every doubt, Through every tear. And heaven answered through the Son: “My child, You never walked alone. I have been here.” Before my first breath, You were there. Before my first question, You were there. Before I ever sought You— You were there. I asked, “God, where are You?” And You answered, “My child... I have been here.”
