When God Looks Down
What does God see when He looks down on humanity? This is real.
This song was written from the perspective of a grieving Father — One who still calls to mankind in mercy, even while being rejected, ignored, blamed, and resisted.
[When God Looks Down]
With glistening eyes man never sees
The tears of a Father in silent pleas
The pain no mortal eyes reveal
A wounded heart, a blood-sealed deal
What He has spoken, love made known
In flesh and suffering, truth was shown
Yet blinded hearts refuse to hear
The voice of mercy drawing near
With earthbound sight and fleeting days
Man is lost within his maze
He looks to heaven with clenched fist
And seals his doubt with traitor’s kiss
Blaming God for paths he chose
Singing loud his bitter woes
Pride resounds, the truth grows dim
All the while, God calls to him
See Him weep—but not in vain
Love still speaks through all the pain
Mercy stands with open arms
Calling souls from every harm
Come and live, be made new
All was paid to ransom you
Not to bind—but set you free
Whole in grace eternally
He who formed the heart of man
Knows each sorrow, understands
Bore our grief upon that tree
Still we sleep in apathy
Some deny He even livvs [lives is pronounced livvs]
Spurn the grace He freely gives
Running fast toward their end
Meeting God—but not as friend
What will break the hardened sight
What will turn the soul to light
His heart still pleads eternally
“Come, be healed—come back to Me”
Yet man declares his ways are pure
While blood runs down and hearts unsure
Deceived by shadows, false belief
Blind to love, and blind to grief
And saints who know this weight of truth
Yet stand in silence, guarded, smooth
Deny the call, withhold the flame
And feel no burden, feel no shame
Who will speak? Who will rise?
Who will open blinded eyes?
Do not hold what must be shared
For God has spoken—be prepared
See Him weep—and hear Him call
Love still reaches through it all
Mercy strong and arms still wide
“Come back home,” the Savior cries
Life is here, the price was paid
Step from death, no more delay
From broken chains to victory
Alive in Him—eternally
He is still calling
He is still calling
Oh hear that voice through the roar
Walk into Heaven's door
